Innovative Technologies for Designing Smart, Safe and Secure Society
We are investigating studies for making our living environments “smart”. We deploy several research projects based on artificial intelligence and signal processing technologies and from both software and hardware perspectives. Examples of research projects are rapid and precise sensing technologies using visual and acoustic signals, intelligent information processing technologies for smart systems including robots, and innovative and intuitive human computer interaction technologies connecting the visual and physical spaces, and so on. To the best of our knowledge, our acoustic positioning technology shows the most accurate and precise performance. We are leading this research field not only through academic contributions but also through industrial applications, such as multiple-robot tracking shown in the figure, precise 3D positioning for assembly robots in an automobile factory. We focus not only on the design and implementation of technologies, but also conduct theoretical analyses through mathematical models for deeply understanding phenomena and principles in the real world. Through collaboration with other research institutes and companies for evaluating the proposed technologies and systems in realistic situations, we aim at the future 4S (Smart, Safe, and Secure Society) for everyone.
