Symbiosis of Human and Robot
With recent developments in cleaning robots, reception robots and entertainment robots, it has become increasingly common to see robots. It has been said that robots and AI will soon support us in daily life, however many problems remain before this can be realized. We research many themes related to realizing a society where humans and robots coexist.
For examples, robots were unable to recognize space being used for human conversations to avoid interfering in it. We developed a system that considers the kind of conversation that is occurring, allowing the robot to make context-appropriate decisions about whether it is appropriate to interrupt the conversation, enter the area where the conversation is occurring, or allow it to continue. This systems considers the distance between speakers, audio data and non-verbal physical movements in order to classify the kind of conversation that is occurring.
In the future, there will be more frequent situations where multiple robots are simultaneously assisting humans. By using the system described above, we developed a system where multiple robots coordinate their actions in order to gently and naturally bring things to a person’s attention. This kind of system was not present in previous research on social robots, and it is natural to consider applications in reception robots or home robots for family use.
