Comparing News Articles from Multiple Countries
In recent years, it has become easier to read news articles from many countries via the Internet. In general, the contents of articles likely reflect the interests of intended readers. By comparing the contents of news articles, we can analyze differences in reader interests in various countries. For example, we could consider news articles when a summit meeting (e.g. G8) is held. We can analyze interest in the meeting by looking at the number of relevant articles over time, and analyze differences in interest by comparing their contents.
In order to analyze such differences in interest, we have extended previous methods based on extracting keywords and introduced a new technique that also uses keywords that arise when comparing to other countries. For, economic and security topics are recognized as important topics and reported in summit-related articles in all countries. However, topics such as human rights and global warming are reported depending on the interests of each country. Our laboratory introduced a method for contrast set mining, where we extract characteristics by comparing differences between data sets. We are also introduced in applying these techniques to news articles and other data.
Knowledge Exploratory Project for Nanocrystal Device Development
“Knowledge exploratory project for nanocrystal device development” aims to support this knowledge transfer process. This project is one of the real use cases based on collaboration between nanocrystal device engineers and computer science researchers.
